Silver era secret #2: high frequency….

Silver-era bodybuilders built the greatest natural physique because they combined every variable that is so important for muscle growth almost perfectly.

And one of the variables is high frequency. It’s quite a fancy word, but ‘high frequency’ is just training often in a week.

Reg Park trained full body 3x a week, and so did Steve Reeves and Bill Pearl.

Arnold trained each muscle 2x a week, and coming to competition, he trained each muscle 3x a week.

But let’s stop for a second. Why do you think these guys do high frequency?

I remember when I started working out, I got on Mike Mentzer’s HIT training system.

Mike’s HIT system was the opposite of high training frequency because in the HIT system, you trained each muscle directly every 12 days.

And I’m not really comfortable training with the HIT system, because once my biceps recover the next day after training it, I have to wait another 11 days to train them again.

And so, the 3-4 training session that should exist now is gone.

And imagine how much muscle growth opportunity you lose if you just don’t train a muscle directly after it recovers?

And this is the main simple reason behind why silver-era bodybuilders train with high frequency… They just don’t want to miss any opportunity for growth.

They want to train each muscle directly after they recover; that simple.

But here’s the thing…

‘High frequency’ for everyone is different, because everyone has certain muscles that recover faster or slower than any other muscle.

Your job is to list the time needed for each muscle to recover, then make a split to train all muscles after they have recovered.

Remember that you can have a break every 6 days or 3 days of training.

My recommendation split is

  1. Push-Pull Lee Haney Style
  2. Arnold Split
  3. Upper 3x, Lower 2x

For me personally, these splits work wonders to hit my muscles when they recover.

That’s it for today.
