“It’s not what you do once in a while that counts, it’s what you do every day.”
– Arnold
Arnold is very, very consistent. He works out every day, eats his diet, and sleeps well even while working 10+ hours a day.
Let’s be real… every training program, rep, and set you do in the gym means nothing if you’re not consistent.
If your diet sucks, if you skip training sessions, your physique will fall off.
But… if you’re consistent…
If you show up to the gym, eat your diet, and sleep well, you’ll get stronger and bigger every week.
“The key to success is consistency. Keep showing up, day after day, even when you don’t feel like it.”
– Arnold
Consistency is to keep showing up, whatever the hell happens (except if some tragedy happens in your life). That is basically what consistency is.
And when analysing Arnold’s system, I’m surprised…
Because Arnold never forces himself to do these ‘productive things’, and all of that is because he follows a simple system. And this system has worked for 60+ years of his life.
And after you finish reading this blog, you’ll be able to directly apply this system to your life.
His system is divided into 3 simple proven steps:
“The most important thing is that you have a vision.”
– Arnold
Some of us have written many visions and goals, and many of us fail, I know that.
But we just can’t ignore the fact that if we want to change and succeed, we must have a goal.
And it applies to our physiques too.
Arnold has a simple way to really build his vision and goals.
The reason I used the word ‘build’ is because Arnold makes his goals very specific and clear, down to the details.
Here’s what Arnold does to build his vision:
So, here is an example of Arnold’s vision:
He will win Mr. Olympia, become the most popular bodybuilder at that time, go to Hollywood, and make tons of money.
For us it might be like this:
I want to have a lean physique (13% body fat and have a 6-pack), I want to hit the gym 3 times a week, eat healthy, hit my protein goal every day, and sleep 7 hours every day.
Everyone is different, but make it concise.
But vision is not enough; you need a plan.
“When you have a vision, you need to chase it with a plan. You can’t just sit there and wait. You have to work your ass off.”
– Arnold
Now you have your vision. You know clearly what you want and want to achieve.
But as Arnold said, vision is not enough. You need a plan.
Making a plan is simple:
For example:
Your goal:
Now, you must set up the time.
In the first week, it will be very hard. But believe me, when you get through the first week, it will be easy, and you’ll rarely ‘force’ yourself.
“I plastered my bedroom wall with photos and quotes of Reg Park and Steve Reeves. I wanted to look at them day and night. That was my vision, and it never left me.”
– Arnold
This is key to discipline and consistency. This is where you make productive things easier to do than negative things.
So, if you’re eating chocolate all night, just don’t grab chocolate at your grocery haul.
So for Arnold, he always put pictures and quotes of his idol in his room, so those pictures motivate him every single time Arnold sees them.
For us, it can be like this:
And many more… You can adjust it by yourself.
After all, consistency comes first from your mind and vision, and that clear vision will allow you to have a concise and specific plan to achieve that vision. And after all of that, you build and make your environment support you to achieve your goal. And your goal will manifest as soon as possible.
Yeah, that’s all the 3 steps. You can apply it directly to your routine. Remember that the first week feels like hell.
But if you hang Arnold’s pictures and quotes, maybe it will help you a bit.
